At 1:28 am (EDT) today the shuttle Endeavour lifted off from Kennedy Space Center, Florida, and made a safe, flawless, and beautiful ascent to space. The last two weeks have been exceedingly busy due to my involvement working the STS-122/1E Space Shuttle mission. My small part in the EVA (i.e. spacewalk) world allows me to see, experience, and participate in some of the most exciting aspects of human spaceflight...in short, I have one of the coolest jobs in the world.

Tonight as I was reading through (and furiously marking up) Luther's Large Catechism, I came across these words in his exposition of the Fourth Commandment ("Honor your father and your mother") that are so prophetic they are frightening:
If [bringing up children in the fear and knowledge of God above all things] . . .
